Grocery shopping became very controversial when netizens saw how much red chili peppers or “sili” cost. As per local reports, a kilogram of this food condiment now costs PHP 1,000! This shocking news truly made Filipinos learn about inflation and its effects. However, instead of being sad, there are some netizens who created memes just to make light of the situation.

Recently, a young man caused an online stir when he tried to pay the jeepney fare with red chili peppers. Of course, this is a humorous way to continue the popular meme and we’re living for it!

In the video, the man took out a pack of the spice and gave four pieces as his payment. He tried to pass it to fellow passengers so the driver could receive it, all while controlling his laughter.

“Isa lang po yan. Pakisuyo na lang.”

All the passengers in the jeepney were surprised and chuckled as well. Someone even said it is fair enough as a payment.

Good thing the jeepney driver did not have any violent reactions and just accepted the pack of sili. Meanwhile, netizens found the man’s gimmick very hilarious, too. Read their comments below:

Several news reports announced that inflation probably caused the chili’s prices to rise. However, some supermarkets told the price is only 750 PHP per kilogram.
