Typhoon Ompong, or Mangkhut in its international name, was reported heading to Ilocos Norte. According to PAG-ASA, Ompong was within the vicinity of Kagubao, Apayao, on Saturday morning. It moved going west and was slightly slower from 35 kilometers per hour to 30 kilometers per hour.
Four hours as of writing, a netizen’s post went viral on social media. It was a video showing the overflowing Chico river at Cheppay, Bontoc. Parts of Northern Luzon also experienced Signal No. 4. These include Ilocos Norte, Babuyan Group of Islands, Apayao, Abra, and Kalinga.
From the video on Facebook, the current from the overflowing river was strong and was terrifying. Many netizens wished and prayed for the safety of residents nearby after watching the video.
The local government is working non-stop to ensure the safety of the people who are affected by Typhoon Ompong. For safety measures, many roads and bridges from affected regions have been closed. The Isabela Public Information Office reported that 3 national bridges are not passable while 2 are under repair.
Three dams from Northern Luzon have already released water due to the typhoon. These are Ambuklao Dam, Binga Dam, and Magat Dam.
Because of the continuous threat Ompong is bringing to our country it is important for everyone to keep safe.
